They should be safe.  I would recommend taking them out of the box and 
spreading them out somewhere (if possible).  

Mike, I dug a lot of rhizomes (seedlings) early in June and replanted most of 
them right away.  A few got pushed to the back of my carport and I ran across 
them this morning.  Still okay!  Not a practice I recommend, and they 
probably won't bloom in the spring, but (as far a survival is concerned) they are 
pretty hardy. 

My new place has no trees so I had a second carport set adjacent to the door 
of my shed.  It makes a great place for trimming and storying irises. I left 
the sides open and I get a lovely breeze most of the day.  I've a couple of 
benches and a glider under this carport . . . an open air outdoor work room.  
Love it!

All, I STILL love my planting bar.  It makes the process so much easier.  
(Oh, my aching back!)
