Hi all,
I had to write with a little humor (I hope)
I read all about you wonderful hybridizers and your
researches on genetics;
who to cross with whom, the best branching, bud
counts,etc. etc..
So, I have to tell you how I choose iris for my
garden: I like the name, so I
buy it... ( I also bet on horses because of their
color or the color their
jockeys are wearing, along with their names.) Because
of this Ill-logic, I
don't win much, but I have a lot of fun and a lot of
laughs in the
garden..........I hope someone else appreciates my
humor.
Thanks,

Hello Lynn,
I sure can appreciate your humor.
I recently registered my first iris; my god-daughter
told me it should be called Pasha. So, as first name
choice, "Pasha"; second (alternative) name choice...
hmmm... (on free association) it makes me think of
those striped puffy "Clown Pants". I thought it was a
little silly, but put it down anyway; it's just an
alternative anyway. As it turned out "Pasha" was
already a name for another iris so.... "Clown Pants"
it became.
Now I'm kind of glad that "Pasha" was taken, because I
get little giggles this way.
For example, I was just e-mailing Neil Mogensen. He's
trying my "Clown Pants" out. [just imagine that] He
was worried about his "Clown Pants" being damaged
[still imagining] by a nearby iris with a bad case of
rot. But I asked him to just leave his "Clown Pants"
next to that iris as a test. [I'm giggling for sure
now]
I know it's kind of childish, "grade-school-level"
humor. Bring's to mind the "who's on first" bit. But
they say, humor's good for you, so here's to your
health. Go ahead and picture us running around the
garden with big red noses, worried that we'll "muss
up" our goofy pants with rotting irises. Now, don't
you feel better?
