RE: Re: CULT: HYB: Poppers & greenhouses

Hi Adam,
Do you have access to Marsh Hay. Leaves cause
puddles of water to form and then freeze. They do
more damage than nothing. They also enhance rot.

Okay everyone. Here's my verdict.

Since I've probably watered the seeds enough for
this fall (twice daily for about 5 or so days,)
I'll just keep the pots barely moist 'till fall
(mid-October.) I'll then bury them, outside the
greenhouse, and mulch them with leaves or
pine-needles.

In the spring, I'll uncover them (mostly) and if
they're dry I'll water. Hopefully by May 15 or
June 1, I'll see some life!!

For the record, I don't plan on dividing up my
pots and experimenting with more/less water per
groups. Whatever survives, survives, since my
main goal is winter/abuse hardy iris.

Next year, depending on what germination looks
like this upcoming spring, I'll plant a little
later, about mid-October instead of this years'
September 1. But here's the glitch. I planted
the 2004 seedlings in November, and watered them
almost daily for 2 weeks, and then frost set in.
This spring, I watered them almost daily again.
After the list members' input, I believe that my
watering was in excess, and rotted the seeds
either last fall, or quite possibly this spring.

Thanks, everyone again for your help. Let me know
what you think of my verdict!

Sincerely,
