I found it on the Texas A & M website.  They have a large ag station here in
Lubbock and luckily, this is one of the things monitored.  Our National
Weather Service tracks this info in the spring, so folks will know when to
plant but I wanted it for all year.  Kind of interesting stuff!!

Wonder how long after the soil warms above 40 before iris start to grow
again?

Dana, where in the world did you find such detailed information on soil
temperatures?  Because of the usual late winter/early spring damage to
some cultivars, I've always been interested in this kind of stuff too.

And I suspect it was even warmer here last winter than where you are.
All of the "southern wobbles' of the jet stream hit their southern
extreme well to the west of us so we escaped all late freeze damage for
the first time I can remember in the 35 yrs I've lived here.

I remember running across this kind of detailed soil temp info when I
did the search for Reemay and all the related plant bed covers, but
haven't seen it elsewhere.

<This is a topic I have always been very curious about so, I did a
search and
                   discovered that our ground temps only dropped below
40 @ 2" depth 25 times
                   last year, all in January and February.  The ground
temp @ 2" only dropped
                   below freezing twice last year.  At 6" we dropped
below 40 12 times and
                   never got below freezing.
