lenses for instance are now much better lenses for close up full frame pictures.

A lot of the newer automatic cameras have macro functions built in, and allow
you to operate in full manual if you want to. (I have rarely found a need to
leave automatic modes).

This is interesting John -- I have an automatic, also, but I can't get
the detail I want.  I want to be able to capture diamond dusing, every
"hair" of the beard, I want to control the background.  Can you do that with
your automatic?  What film do you use, etc. etc.
