Hi
     I grow aril bred iris without too much trouble usually. The secret here 
has been that our winters are wet, the summer dry. The pure aril, generally 
like low humidity, very well drained (sandy), rich in lime and minerals soil. 
Desert conditions I think they have wonderful color.  Excellent resources are 
books THE WORLD OF IRIS & THE GARDENERS IRIS BOOK. Both available through AIS 
bookstore, Hope you are successful growing them.
