I interplant my irises with lots of other things, such as zinnas, butterfly
weed, gaillardia, coneflowers, columbine, etc.  This is a tremendous help
in containing problems such as rust, aphids, etc. because the
interplantings act as barriers and do not allow the diseases to spread.
Then if something does develop a problem, it is much easier to treat it.
