Devastation has struck! Half of me is Pollyanna over this that nothing is a
problem if money can solve it -- and the other half is bemoaning over the
financial blows dealt out this year.
Everyone knows we've had a severe drought this year - too hot to plant irises
and then we've had such rains that it was too wet! About 10 days ago we had
4" in 2 hrs. and then Floyd came to visit or an early cousin and we had 2'
in 2 hours and my waterproofed cellar had water -- the ground just could not
take it all in -- Then of course Floyd arrived himself and gave me over 10
measured inches all day Thusrday and all night -- Friday I had a root
canal(one of my front teeth!) and came home and found that a huge wild
cherry tree in my neighbor's yard had its own version of a root canal during
the night and uprooted itself -- all 7' tall for the uprooted part - and was
inconsiderate enough to lay its 2' diameter unwelcomed body across my 5'
Anchor chain-link fence, taking out 11 eight foot sections of the fence, and
4 of my prize specimen trees that are/were my pride and joy and also a few
shrubs( my grandmother always pointed out that pride goeth before a fall --
and I have really fallen on the depths of despair until I remember I'm being
pollyanna that it didn;t take out my Shadbark Maple - or hit my deck or the
house) BUT - it is also laying over half of one of my Rebloomer
Beds!!!!!!!!!! THAT is the final straw! The tree is so huge it will take a
crane to lift it out, and there is no way of access so that means chopping it
up. The neighbor and I have notified our ins. co. and waiting for 1 treeman
to come and "look" at it today - Saturday. They are all too busy removing
trees from houses and roads, which is understandable - but my poor irises are
unhappy, I know! And so am I. However the weather is beautiful, drying out
so planting can resume.
My guard cat is refusing to eat even babyfood because she feels betrayed
that now she is better and resents having her medicine added - and if she
doesn't get it, she'll go downhill again. Woe is me - but Pollyanna is
struggling to the rescue of my spirits - theysay a problem shared is half a
problem -- so you were elected to share!!! Pollyanna-Rosalie nr Baltimore
