Lonicera edulis
I sampled some of the fruit of this small bush, grown from Latvian
seed, when I visited a lily and Siberian iris nursery on the slopes
of Mt. Hood last summer. They tasted good, so I scraped a few seeds
out of a berry, and now have a pot of recently-germinated seedlings
which I will grow in my vegetable garden. There was no indication
of spread beyond the row, though of course with a berried shrub the
invading plants would show up under the branches where berry-eating
birds roost. The plants were being grown out in the full sun, and
were small shrubs, not vines, so it seems unlikely they would become
pests in our dense forests. This is not to say they wouldn't be
pests in open woodlands elsewhere, though.
