raspberry take-over

My raspberry patch has been wandering far and wide and, though I love the
raspberries, I don't have enough vegetable garden space for them to take it
over. Sometimes I can just pull the canes out but sometimes not. And
they're even poking up between bricks in my brick path.
I'm thinking of putting a barrier down in the hope that it would stop their
travels. Does anyone know if this would work? How deep would it have to be
and how tall?
