I know and grow this- you're right, most of the year 'nondescript' is the
word, but Oh! those two weeks!
I have found that it flowers best on one year old wood,and new growth is
very much better-looking than old, so I cut it right back after
blooming. I am always being asked for suckers if anybody sees it in
bloom. It also likes more fertilizer here than the books say, but minimal
summer water.
