May I suggest these roses - they are half species (wild) forms
- and Caltrans has been using them in different parts of the state.
Meilland is a French nursery that has developed these
landscape roses. They are tough and can stand hot and cold. They require little
maintenance, they bloom all year, and the autumn/winter foliage is lovely and
full of hips. They rise to no more than 2 ft, are drought tolerant. They were
not bred for fragrance but for hardiness. And they look lovely!
