Dear Joe and Jason,
I will have to look out for the cultivar
'Elegant' - it sounds intriguing - is the red growth similar to photinia?
I see there is a picture on Sierra Azul's web site but it's difficult
to make out the new leaves. One of the plants I put in this spring is
a bronze variety loquat which has a copper color to its new
leaves. Having plants with different colored new growth makes the
garden much more interesting.
Does anyone recall if Tristaniopsis is one of the
trees planted on some downtown streets in Martinez? I seem to remember
visiting there some time ago and seeing a tree I didn't recognize,
but I can't recall exactly what the trees look like now - perhaps they
were melaleuca? I will have to start carrying my camera and taking more
pictures. I am having such great fun discovering a whole
new plant palette now that I am living in a warmer climate
zone.
Thanks to you both.
