re: getting rid of lawn

 Thank you everyone!  Yes, it's true that I don't want to use non-organic
methods.  After collecting and distilling advice, from here and elsewhere,
this is my plan:
Cover to keep out light beginning in the fall while weather is hot, then,
when spring comes, do several cycles of uncovering to let remaining weed
seeds sprout and re-covering to kill them off.  Any further (or
contradictory!)  advice is still appreciated <g>.
