Cyndi,
You can encourage bloom by giving it full sun (west of the East Bay Hills),
a deep monthly soak in the dry season (it will live but not neccessarily thrive
without),
pruning right after bloom ( why produce a profusion of flowers
if it has set seed?) or before berries are ripe. If you want to leave the
berries for birds
then pruning in the fall will encourage a heavier spring bloom.
