There is a long hedge of Photinia fraseri along Interstate 5 here in Stockton
that is particularly beautiful right now. Unpruned, it has made a billowy,
informal hedge from two to three meters in height. The creamy flowers
against the red foliage are particularly striking and attractive. There is
enough variety in the "straight run" of seedlings that the effect is far from
monotonous, resembling, in fact, a tapestry hedge of a single species, if
that were possible.
