Dear Medit Plant folks,
Well, its time to remind you about the Cabrillo College 21st annual plant
sale
in Aptos, California just south of Santa Cruz. The presale for friends of
the garden
and silent rare plant auction is Thursday, May 6th, 4-6:30 p.m. Friday
and Saturday
the sale is open to the general public 9 - 5 p.m. plus Sunday 9-12 a.m.
We will have lots
of plants including annuals, California natives, cut flowers, hanging
baskets, herbs, perennials,
succulents, vegetables and of course our specialty...Salvias. Our Sage
collection of 175 different
species and cultivars was hit hard by the freeze but we had already taken
seed and cuttings which were growing in our greenhouses when the freeze
came by. Our lowest recorded temperatures during the three day cold spell
in December was around 23 degrees F. As of this date all but about 15
Salvias in our collection are showing signs of new growth.
What follows is our list of Salvias featured at this particular plant
sale. Some of the plants are in very limited supply. For those of you in
other countries I thought you might enjoy seeing which Salvias we are
growing. Our facilities are within site of the Pacific Ocean about 2
hours south of San Francisco, so our climate is generally very mild with
a hard freeze (into the low 20's degrees F.) every 10 years or so.
