I don't know how close to the Gulf Coast College
Station is, but there are several web sites that I
have browsed that address this climate and plants that
can be grown there.
www.raingardens.com/bbs deals mostly with all things
subtropical, including palms, and including as far
north as Dallas, Tx
www.iconx.com Gulf Breezes Gardening, a discussion
group for gardeners along the gulf coast of Texas
http://home.flash.net a site that rates the
suitability of perennials for the gulf coast, good
info for gardeners dealing with high heat and humidity
