Re: acquiring podranea

  1.  Are there any drawbacks I should know about besides the obvious frosthardiness issues.
  2. Would it grow satisfactorily in large redwood planters at the corners of this arbor.
Dear Karrie,

I grow mine in a clay container on my balcony in a northern suburb of Athens, so the container isn't an issue.  The only drawbacks for me are that it can attract ants and aphids which you will have to be on the alert for; and the other that the flowers are sensitive to the winds we experience, so often the vine is bare of flowers.

An unusual application I saw last year was in an outdoor theater in an old marble quarry...the lunar landscape had pale pink podranea planted against the bare rocks...I suppose this means the more lime the better!

Good luck with finding a source, I can't help you there!
