Hello all,
I will be going to the island of Hvar in the Adriatic Ocean, part of Croatia, in late May of 2006.
Do any of you know:
1. Any specific reading materials that speak to the horticulture of the island? I have read bare bones references to pine trees, aloes, laurels, and "heathers," In addition I understand there are extensive fields of lavender, some grapes, and some olives.
2. There is mention that a national park covers a large part of the island's center, and there is a monastery in the park. Can anyone speak to this? Would it be a place to take a short hike?
3. Are there any particular routes one would suggest for a driving tour of the island that would showcase some of the above?
4. And, finally, does anyone know a horticulturist who lives on the island who might be interested in being a tour leader for the day?
There will be about 20 of us, we will be coming off a small ship and have one day in Hvar.
Thanks in advance for any help or referrals you can provide.
Carol
