Re: eremophilia

I grow Eremophilas in Southern Cal and find them to be unpredictable.  Some do incredibly well and others last a year or two and then poop out.

E. maculata 'Valentine' which has red/pink speckled flowers tends to poop out quickly.  'Summertime Blue' has done incredibly well with regular water.  I also have a gray-green leaved variety with orange/yellow flowers that is probably Eremophila glabra `Kalgoorlie'  (it is too dark outside at the moment to go look) that has done extremely well with very little water in full sun.

Funny thing, I was looking at the Mountain States Nursery site to see the variety names and came across a photo of my garden!  The Eremophila racemosa in the image is long gone and the colors of the house are really washed out but I was pretty amused to find it!  http://www.mswn.com/Plantis/Image_view.asp?Image_=Images\Img6519_386.jpg

Has anyone outside Australia grown any of the Emu bushes? If so, were there any surprises? I am especially interested in Eremophilia latrobei as I am told that its distinct beetroot colour alters in 'foreign climes', but it has also been suggested to me that all of the Eremophilias shift in their habits becoming taller and more floriforous away from 'home'.
