Here in Vancouver BC we've grown one against a south-facing wall for a number of years. I moved it last year into a cactus-agave-yucca bed. This year it bloomed very well, in fact it's been in bloom for well over a month now.
I don't water that bed during summer at all. While winter rains often exceed 700mm/2.5ft, during summer we receive nearly no rainfall in July and August. .. it is a happy plant!
