Hi Nan
I've had the same problem in a beach garden. I wonder whether I've been too kind to them - my neighbour has flourishing leucadendrons which were planted in totally unprepared soil, never watered or fertilised. We both have 'Safari Sunset'. Mine lasted 2 years and then died. I'd have blamed the extreme alkalinity of the soil if it were not for the fact that the next door plants appear very happy. Bizarre.

Temps in the 90s, even by the beach. In my garden and in two gardens I installed over the last several months, I've lost leucadendrons. Not the same leucadendrons, different species and cultivars, but almost all the leucadendrons just fizzled, including one in my garden that I've had for at least eight years. The Leucospermums are fine as are the proteas, grevilleas, and melaleucas. Why just the leucadendrons?
All were drip irrigated, all in well draining soil, none fertilized with high P fertilizer (mostly unfertilized but those most recently planted do get a little fertilizer at planting). oth have 'S Any thoughts?
