I'm not sure if it would survive there, but Chinese pistache are used as
street trees here in hot inland northern California.  They branch quite
high, are not watered, and have beautiful fall color.  Also, would palo
verde work?  I think they are so attractive.  What about albizia julbrissin
(did I spell that right)?
