Re: Romneya coulteri germination

Here in in Northern California, it seeds in the wild, and does not seem
to require fire for propagation. Fire is a periodic occurrence, but
rarely in any given place. Maybe it requires a different parent for
pollen. I have been told, though I have not yet tried it, that the seed
can be germinated by putting in a plastic bag with slightly damp medium,
refrigerating for several weeks; then removing and leaving at room
temperature for a similar time, and then repeating this sequence several
times. Or (if you have the winter weather we have here), sewing it
outside in the fall, and forgetting about it till spring, when it will
have gone through a similar process.
