Yes, I've grown lots of Agapanthus from seed. Mine were essentially
indistinguishable from the parent plants. They were pretty easy. I
just put them 1/8" deep in a flat of peaty soil, and kept them moist and
humid.
For variation, you might try cross fertilizing the large form with the small
form, and the white flowered form with the purple.
