Fellow Plant Nuts,
Yet another lurker! I expect this to be my last posting as I am truly awed
by the knowledge and breadth of this group. And very grateful for the
humor and the lack of raving flamers so common on computer mailing lists
(my other life).
Somehow, my brown thumb turned green after spending a week gardening with a
woman in New Zealand 5 years ago. Last year, I finally revived the small
front yard. Since it's a rental, I'm reluctant to put in too many
rare/expensive/dear plants. So it's a strange mishmash of salvias,
perennials, natives and volunteers. But it doesn't keep me from
fantasizing about all the plants I've been hearing about here.
Whoever laid out our lot was a "genius". On a very small corner lot, they
managed to lay out a small garage, house and main trees such that no part
gets "full sun" all year. The hottest parts of the yard are also the
coldest and darkest in the winter. Most of my fun is finding a plant that
is happy in the particular 1 meter by 1 meter microclimate.
That's all for now! Glad to be a part of this list!
