My garden is in Studio City in Southern California, Sunset Zone 21. The lot size is 50 X 135; all space is fair game for planting. No lawn, primarily perennials with a preponderance of various saliva. I've never met a plant I didn't like. The soil is sandy loam and if a plant needs much moisture, it usually does poorly and will eventually disappear.
I would appreciate some help with a problem. Have grown a trellis full of sweet peas for years but the last few years they have refused to thrive, staying small and looking peaked. Somewhere in the deep recesses of my mind I recall that Solanum could be a problem in the garden. Within five feet of the trellis is Solanum jasminoides. Is this the culprit? If I remove the Solanum, how long before the effect is gone? Are there certain plants that are more sensitive. How close is too close?
Spring just won't seem right without sweetpeas!! Please help.
