seeking Medit climate info from subscribers

Fellow Mediterranean Gardeners -

As some of you know, I am in the process of pulling together some
WWW pages as an outgrowth of the Medit-Plants discussion. One of
the sections of these pages is devoted to the various Mediterranean
climates throughout the world. While I have some understanding of a
number of these specific sites, I am sure I cannot have the
familiarity with local 'expressions' of the Mediterranean climate
that someone would have who lives and gardens in that locale.

Are there persons out there who would like to compose even a breif
description of their own climate, regardless how specific it might
be? I can easily cover the various SF Bay Region areas of
California, though I am happy to include anyone's input locally. I
am quite interested in places such as South Africa, Chile, Southern
and Western Australia. The various ports of call in the
Mediterranean would also be of interest. Each specific site has its
own climate profile, and I am sure it would be of interests to
others. It would also be of interest to those within that same
community - to hear articulated the specific points of the their own
climate that they might not have considered.

Points mentioned in these local climate descriptions might be:

 - range of soil types (sandy, rocky, alkaline/acid, clayish, etc.)
 - wind factors
 - season variations in temperature
 - humidity
 - maritime influences (fog, salt spray, etc.)
 - topography (steep hills, lowlands, floodplains, valleys, etc.)
 - urban influences (smog, development of the land, urban sprawl)
 - anything I might have left out.

Feel free to make the description as personal or idiosyncratic as
you'd like - making for interesting reading. Mediterranean related
climates can also be included (deserts, mild temperate, etc.) as
these are often the home of some of our subscribers.

If anyone has input or ideas for this project, please let me know.
I will also provide adequate source recognition of all text I add to
the Mediterranean Gardening WWW Site (this is what the site is being
built around, anyway).

I look forward to hearing from any of you, either personally or to
the Medit-Plants group discussion.
