Re: fire ants
At least here in the central coast none of these pests have been
reported (yet). However we have an ant here that we just called "red
ant". Its probably a native species because ive only seen one nest of
them and that was in Ft. Ord (none in my city, and theyre mostly in the
wilderness areas). I never have been bitten by these, but they are
ferocious, attacking anything we stuck over their nest (grasshoppers,
snails, pill bugs). But just standing near their nest they never would
attack (and they would be quite a ways from the nest, never in
organized patterns when searching for food, like argentine ants)
