Hi Gay
I realize this is really ancient history by now, but I am making a big
effort to catch up with my mail before the year's end.
I have the impression that P. raidiata is relatively short-lived for a
large conifer. There is a park in our South Island near Nelson where
several used to be on show which were planted well back in last century.
When we first visited about 25 years ago there was a magnificent display
of enormous trees apparently all in good health and averaging around 100
years old. The park authorites were obviously proud of them and each
tree bore a notice detailing its vital statistics!
However, ten years later the majority had died and been felled, having
apparently reached the end of their lives quite naturally.

country garden was open to the public and garden club visitors for 8
days over that period and it rained non-stop for 7 1/2! Oh! Well
there is always next year!
Here in Wellington we also had record wet in October, but not so much in
November. As it happens quite a lot of rain-bearing fronts appear on our
weather map down in the left hand corner where Tassie lurks, so it is
not really surprising our weather has similarities.
Thank goodness I have a very well-drained and largely sloping garden.
Compliments of the Season to you and other freinds on the list
