Hi Moira,
No disagreement here, I would go on to say that all of
the Lavenders benefit esthetically from regular
shearing after bloom, and many seldom get it. The
result is lumpy miss-shapen plants that get too big,
and when cut back too hard, refuse to regrow.
Sometimes it can be a dilemma as to when to shear, as
many bloom almost all year round in our local
conditions.
Once a year attention would be more like "next to no
maintenance", rather than low maintenance in my view.
L. stoechas is fast enough growing with summer
irrigation in California that light shearing 2~3 times
a year would not be too often.
