small ceanothus?

I'd love to grow ceanothus in my small garden but most
cultivars appear to be too wide. Sunset does list C.
Thyrsiflorus "Skylark" as being 3-6 ft. tall, 5 ft.
wide. Have any of you had experience with this plant
or any other small ceanothus? Any planting/care
advice?
