We have a dwarf cultivar called Ceanothus impressus "Vandenberg" that was
planted in 2000 as a one gallon. It is now two feet tall and 4-5 feet
across with tiny leaves and flowers. It is in part shade and gets no summer
water. The flowers combine mid blue and white so it gleams like stainless
steel. We bought it at Yerba Buena Nursery here in the bay area.
It was selected in the early 80's by Nevin Smith at Vandenberg Air Force
Base before parts were bulldozed for housing. It is known as Santa Barbara
ceanothus so it it should grow well for you.

Subject: small ceanothus?
I'd love to grow ceanothus in my small garden but most
cultivars appear to be too wide. Sunset does list C.
Thyrsiflorus "Skylark" as being 3-6 ft. tall, 5 ft.
wide. Have any of you had experience with this plant
or any other small ceanothus? Any planting/care
advice?
Thanks!
