The weather has been so nice the last few days--
sunny afternoons when I get home from work. Time
to get after all those weeds brought up by all
the winter rain.
Pulling weeks out of the driveway flowerbed, I
got to wondering about some 'appealing' weeds.
Do you ever find some weeds so beguiling that
you let them grow just a little bit longer?
I find that "Miner's Lettuce" is in this class.
Montia perfoliata, ("Winter Purslane", "Indian
Lettuce"); can be used in salads or as a pot
herb.
It's cute, with its little white flowers which
appear to emerge from the center of a round
leaf, though,in reality, there are two disk-like
stem leaves below it.
I know--I should be hard-hearted about these
plants. Let them seed now and you will have
them forever.
Sean mentioned Chasmanthe, object of comments
previously on this list. Mine are blooming, too.
C. aethiopica (is this correct?) has red flowers;
C. floribunda has yellow. I have given a lot of
these away--doing my bit to help spread what
some consider another troublesome weed.
Looking forward to a 3-day weekend of yard work;
there's a lot to be done.
