I buy what turns up and looks interesting in my local nurseries . . .or
what I see in glorious, full-color pictures in books. And that is
generally NOT California natives.

Besides, IMHO, a lot of our natives are either fussy about soil, dormant
half the year, or not really very pretty.  So I pick what I like from
around the world.
