Howdy -
Just wanted to let folks know that a Clematis I've raved about from time to
time on this list but which was available only from England, is now being
offered at Wayside Gardens at a decent price - this is Clematis "Betty
Corning". It's a very nice one, very vigorous, about 10 feet, with "pagoda"
shaped flowers of a pale lavender color, crisped edges, and a bittersweet
fragrance (in the way that witch hazel is). Because of the smaller flowers,
it's probably best for planting close to a path or over an arbor/pergola,
where one can get close to it and smell its flowers.
