RE: Romneya coulteri propagation (white gas, pet. ether)

Thanks, Mr. Wiseman, your instructions also answer a previous question about
on this thread about how to get pet. ether. White stove gas is about the
same
thing as petroleum ether - gasoline without all the engine and anti-smog
additives.

But maybe soaking the seeds 1 hour and then pouring off the gas and letting
them
dry would be better - you'll better wash off the germination inhibitors that
way.

I've used this method to propagate Romneya coulteri seeds. Place the seeds
in a china or plastic dish --- not a metal dish. Pour white gas, the type
used in a Coleman lanterns, just enough to cover the seeds. Let the white
gas evaporate from the pan. The white gas breaks the dormancy of the seed.
One will not get 100% germination of the seeds, but give it a try.
Evaporate! Not light!
