Anni,
You might consider contacting Melinda Johnson at UC
Santa Cruz Arboretum, phone 831 423 9560. I was
visiting on Thursday and forgot to ask her myself, but
they must have a good 20 plants out in the South
African section in full bloom at the moment, although
they list it as P. plumosa, as does my RHS Index of
Garden Plants. For general information of those not
familiar with Santa Cruz, the predominant soil
condition at the Botanic Gardens is decomposed
granite/sandstone from uplifted marine terraces, which
is not similar to either clay or peat, so the species
must have a fairly broad range of conditions it can
tolerate.
The gardens were in full bloom for many South African
and Australian species, and well worth a visit at
present. Many Proteas, Banksias, Grevilleas and
Leucodendrons in full bloom, the Leucospermums are
just starting. It was even warm enough in the gardens
to walk around in shirt sleeves, quite a change from
the night time low of 33F in my garden earlier that
morning!
