RE: Myrtus-Phytophthera in Trachelospermum

Hi Richard,

One of the unique things about the Roof Garden is that is
basically a 3.5 acre container garden with less than perfect drainage.
Soil/water borne diseases are a nightmare because there is always an inch or
two
of water sitting in the drain rock layer, and so re-infection occurs quickly
in
susceptible species especially in the older, less vigorous plant material. I
have
also managed to save Rhododendrons and Azaleas with Aliette or Subdue only
to
have the problem reappear soon. So my solution has been to work in to the
garden
species which are less susceptible to start with and to continually work on
our
drainage issues, and to make sure my gardeners don't overwater (lot's of
education and the occasional
outright hissy fit seems to do the trick).

In the meantime, while you still have the dying hedge, have you tried
spraying
it with Alliette? I have had success with it saving Phytophthera infected
rhododendrons.
