Title: Re: Moving large roses?
Hi,
I transplanted a large old hybrid
tea last winter and it was sending out new growth by spring.
I trimmed back the canes a bit, pulled off all the leaves, and then
dug up the largest rootball I could handle. It did very
well with no special treatment after the transplant. I was
told that you can transplant a rose any time of year provided the
plant is dormant. If the weather isn't cooperating, you
can induce dormancy by pulling off ALL the leaves. I've
successfully transplanted roses in mid summer.
If you don't want a new rose bush
growing where the transplanted one used to be, make sure you dig out
any remaining roots. The roots I left in the ground are sending
up shoots which I have to dig out before it gets out of
control.
Have fun!
Angela
