Gosh Charles
That was a more original way of spending Christmas that most of us dreamed
up, congratulations and I hope you will be around to set us an example for
many New Years to come
Anyway, Timber Press sent me a review copy of "So you want to start a
nursery" by a chap called Avent who had learnt his stuff at the University
of North Carolina and you can't say better than that........although I am
still waiting for them to send my draft exemption papers that were supposed
to have arrived here in 1962. Anyway, it's the sort of tightly compressed
mass of essential facts that I wish I was in possession of when I started
out. In fact if I had read it first, I probably wouldn't have started (as
the author suggests in his introduction), but if you are pig-headed enough
to plunge in, or are already in it up to the neck, it's an invaluable
reference source. Also it is surprising that that on both sides of the
Atlantic, laws for hiring and firing are very similar and the information
on taxes suggests that all the world's tax men get together at a luxury
hotel in a nice climate somewhere and discuss the best ways of parting the
workers from their money. I was struck too by the fact that there seems to
be only one way to design a consignment note and invoice. It took years here
to evolve one that is almost identical to the one so nicely laid out for
beginners in Avent's book.
Sorry I can't get to San Mateo in February even though I bet there is more
to celebrate there than there is here at that time of the year so the above
is my suggestion
Keep the new transmission well oiled
Anthony
