So glad you are doing well and glad to hear from you again.  I wish you a speedy recovery.  I value all your great ideas and your willingness to share on this forum.  I would have sent this privately but you said your email isn't working.
 
For your friend - It would help if we knew the type of business your friend is starting, i.e. wholesale nursery, retail nursery, florist shop, flower grower, landscaper, hydroponic grower, propagator, etc., etc. and what area he/she will be concentrating in such as perennials, trees, shrubs, etc.  We could then, better give advice or suggestions as to resources.
 
Home & Gardens show coming up in San Mateo in February and others listed below.  I have gone to the San Francisco Flower and Garden show for the past several years and I love it.  There are tons of resources, vendors and garden displays to see and obtain information from.  I get there very early in the morning when they first open on a weekday so it isn't so crowded.
