Re: Rockery Plants

I don't normally like much yellow in the garden either, but the golden yellow of Aurinia saxatilis (Alyssum saxatile), Basket of Gold, I really loved in a garden I had many years ago and the gray green leaves were attractive.  I did see one article stating this plant as a noxious weed but I never had it reseed where it was planted.

I have grown Teucrium cussonni and was happy with the tightly knit mound it formed and the purplish pink flowers nearly covered the plant when it was in bloom.  It did spread more slowly than I thought it would but sometimes that is a good thing in a rock garden.

I also recommend Dianthus plumarius or old fashioned Cottage Pinks.  I have used this plant over and over again in many locations.  The fragrance of the flowers is wonderful and the gray foliage provides a nice contrast when planted near dwarf green conifers.
