RE: Californian Gardens

Yes, Tim, I've got it and have heard Judith talk about the book.  She's a SF Bay Area resident.  It's like a collection of short stories about various gardens around California.  Judith took the papers and notes of Harry Butterfield of the University of California about mostly California plant breeders, horticulture and public gardens and pulled them together into this volume.  I had the book at one point but can't find it this morning.  The section on San Jose (my town) was thin even though it was the rose capital of the Western US as well as the Valley of Heart's Delight (orchards) in the early 1900's.  I remember it being more about people/nurserymen rather than gardens.  Wish I could find it.

Happy New Year to you too.

Subject: Californian Gardens

Does anyone know the book Tangible Memories: Californians and their Gardens, 1800-1950, written by Judith Taylor and published in 2003 by Xlibris, Philadelphia? There are 474 pages of it so it's certainly substantial! Is it also good? Comments, pro or con, but frank in either direction, much appreciated!

And a happy new year to everyone!
