Wow, thanks so much for this tip! There are areas (along paths, at the bases of the big raised beds) where I would have cut the fabric to plant, and then had to contend with the morning glory coming up in the gaps.

So for the big beds with the big shrubs, it's sounds like I have a choice between: 1) the fabric, which lets small feeder roots through and is known to keep out the morning glory, and 2) cardboard, which will eventually let big taproots through -- but does anyone know if it will also eventually let the morning glory through? Decisions, decisions.
