Alessandra, all, i forgot this last bit of info in my previous post on this
topic. After the floods of 95' the farmers were blaming the willows and
cottonwoods that grow on the levees for causing their breakage. I couldnt
believe it, blaming a tree whose roots hold that soil together better than
anything else native here for the flood.If it werent for the trees those
levees would have broke sooner than they did. Ill tell you the real story.
Settlers here straightened out the Salinas river banks to give them more
farmland. When the flood hit, that river went into its original riverbed,
even if it was buried under soil. People dug its channel too narrow for the
amount of water that went through it during the floods. When will people ever
learn?
