Hugo: Thanks for your note on Chinese-foxgloves-in-Spain! I'm not
surprised at what you report about R. angulata/elata with you. I
suspect the other spp, too, sadly, will also - supposing they're ever
tracked down - also need more moisture than most 'proper' Med. gardens
will be able easily to provide.
And, yes, rich earth: I hadn't thought of that but once you say it
it's obviously true. I wrestle here all the time with the fact that
the soil is really far too good and rich for the plants I want to
grow. I try hard to make it worse - ie, better, for my purposes -, to
the horror of my neighbours, but I never manage to make it as poor as
it ideally OUGHT to be. At least - win some, lose some - these Chinese
foxgloves wax fat on the unavoidably rich diet I offer them.
