Tim Longville gave us an interesting review of the book FYNBOS. Yes,
Tim, I also thought it was one of the better books on the subject.
Photography and text were both excellent. I understand, however, that
it is now out of print.

Andrew: Is it really out of print ALREADY? Gosh. Difficult to
see the point in publishing a book like that and only keeping it in
print for a couple of years. Still, I imagine second-hand copies
should be eassily enough findable through one of the obvious big
web-site dealer-networks.

The discussion of the various veld types was really terrific. The
South African mediterranean area is incredibly rich in plants on
account of the variety of sub-climates that have developed and the way
these climate regions show vegetation that has adapted to them makes
great reading - not dry as you might think at first.

Agree entirely. I usually feel my eyes glaze and my jaw drop
when faced by technical discussions of climate and habitat variation
but the discussion in that book was more like a high quality 'tec
story (or film, given the standard of the accompanying photographs):
what is this plant doing here, detective? WHY is it here? Has it got
an alibi? All you were missing was the accompanying CDRom with the
Dragnet theme as its signature tune!
