Dear chevrel
This tree is very popular in the milder parts of New Zealand, mainly as
a street or park tree, especially by the sea (which is not surprising,
as we are not all that far from its home base at Norfolk Island in the
central Tasman sea).
Its vital statistics seem to be :-
Maximum lifespan 120 years.
Maximum height 30+metres (about 200 ft)
Expected dimensions after 10 years (average garden conditions) 10 X 5 m.

The only information I can give you about its roots is that well-grown
street trees in a local seaside suburb have have lifted pavement and
road surface in their vicinity.

An old book suggests the foliage colour is best in partly shaded
conditions.

And that's all I know. I certainly don't have a large enough garden to
think of growing one myself, though I agree they are as handsome a
species as one could find.
